Interview with: Claire Salter
Company Name: Claire Salter Bridal Make-Up and Hair
Location / Coverage: Nottingham/ Nationwide & Thailand
How did your business get started and how long has it been going?
Several years back I had a very difficult time in my life where many doors closed. After much consideration and decision making I decided to go back to full-time education, where I started a year’s course in Make-up Artistry. This was 11 years ago, and I have never looked back 🙂
Which areas of the UK do you cover?
I cover all areas of the UK.
What wedding services do you offer?
I offer a personal, bespoke service for your big day. First of all I will telephone you to chat on a personal level, in order to get to know you and all about your desired look for your wedding day. Thereafter we will agree on a convenient date and locations for your trial.
When we meet for your trial I would like you to be as relaxed as possible, so I can come to your home or you can visit me — whichever is most comfortable for you.
A trial is exactly that and I set no time limits; we keep trying styles and looks until you are 100% happy.
On your wedding day I will arrive at your chosen location, should this be your home, venue or hotel. I am also able to help with little tweaks like, the covering of a tattoo/bruise/blemish, and help with the lacing of a dress… and provide little words of calm 🙂
What packages do you offer and what are your prices for wedding make-up and hair?
I work both in the UK and Thailand. I will be available for bookings in Thailand as from December 2013 — April 2014. My full price list can be viewed here — www.clairesaltermakeup.co.uk/price-list
Do you offer groups rates for bridesmaids and other family members?
Group rates and family guest rates can be negotiated.
What sets you apart from other wedding hair and make-up artists?
I have worked in the fashion industry for several years (10+), during which time I have experienced many challenging locations, very early call times, and extreme weather conditions! In the past I have been given some challenging briefs on the look required for a photographic shoot, and I still do.
Nothing fazes me and my kit is always fully stocked for every eventuality (tampons, razors, spray on plasters, water spray, shoe horn, sewing kit and much more!).
What product ranges do you use?
- Bobbi Brown
- MAC
- YSL
- Chanel
- Benefit
- Body Shop
- Screen Face
- Ben Nye
- Dermacolor
What’s the best thing about your job?
The people I meet, their happy smiley faces, and the locations/venues I get to see and work at. Also seeing the photos afterwards, knowing I was involved in the preparations of someone’s big and beautiful day.
What are your top wedding make-up tips?
My top tips are all about the skin…
Prepare and look after your skin. Try to drink as much water as you can (1 litre a day); this will help to clear out any impurities which may result in a pimple.
Sea Kelp is also fantastic for the skin, hair and nails (this can be taken orally, and preferably 3 months before your wedding day).
Vitamin E is also amazing for the skin! this can be taken orally in capsule form or in foods such as almonds, red chilli powder, peanuts, and pickled onions.
As an extra treat for your skin, in the evening you can pop open a Vitamin E capsule and apply this to your face after cleansing and before moisturising.
The 3 rules for great skin — CTM: Clean, Tone and Moisturise!
Once you have put all of these into practice you will be well on your way to having glowing skin, and after all that hard work, along with all your wedding preparations, try to chill out and have a little you time.
What do you think the hair trends for 2104 weddings will be?
With the release of the Great Gatsby movie vintage hairstyles are on trend; Marcel waves, Finger Waves, Rolls and all that Glamour!
In contrast to this is the Bohemian/Beach relaxed soft curl, loose braid and triple barrel beach wave.
Random question… What is your favourite restaurant?
My favourite restaurant without a doubt is a tiny little place in Thailand, run by a good friend of mine, Nang: Sunsea Resort Ban Kai.
