Unless you are a bohemian bride marrying with your toes in the grass in the shadow of a beautiful tipi, or a secluded beach somewhere with the wind in your hair, flower crowns have had their day. However, the desire for beautiful and natural statement pieces to complement a bridal look is still hugely popular. A big wedding hair trend is deconstructed flower crowns — more relaxed, bespoke flower arrangements in bridal hair instead of something heavy or structured.

As a hairstylist, one thing I always need to consider when working with a bridal client is how secure and how comfortable her chosen hairstyle will be. Brides often ask their florist for wired flowers to put into their hair, but these can be too heavy and awkward to use. Fresh flower combs look lovely but are often too bulky for the romantic, loose styles I create. Working with large combs of flowers can be troublesome when trying to work with a veil comb too, as it can crowd the head and drag the hair down.

Bespoke Styles

So, as a result I have now started creating deconstructed flower crowns instead. Something bespoke for each bride to complement the intricate twists or waves of their hair.

By individually pinning each flower or piece of greenery through the movement of the hairstyle you can enhance the beautiful shape and colour of the bride’s hair. This allows you to create something completely unique and individual to the bride’s wedding look and feel. It’s also a lovely creative process as the bride can see the flowers take shape in her hair and work with you to make something beautiful just for her.

Whether you want to go for a romantic, tumbling updo for your big day or a gorgeous down-do with textured, undone waves, why not try also incorporating fresh flowers or foliage with your bridal hair accessories? Using both together can transform your bridal hair into something breathtaking.

The best thing about deconstructed flower crowns is no one will ever have the same creation as you, so you can be completely unique on your big day!
