Have you ever seen a wedding with the bride and groom having a ‘candy shower ceremony’? No, well you are about to, and it’s such a cool idea! Jenny and Nick wanted to create a ‘Love is Weird’ theme for their wedding using an eclectic mix of things they love as their wedding decor. They created a light-hearted wedding which really focused on their love for each other and the things they love.
‘We are all a little bite weird and life is odd, so when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness, and call it love, true love.’
“My biggest inspiration for the day was less about how I wanted everything to look, more about the mood I wanted to create. I viewed the day as a time of immense joy and happiness and wanted to set the tone to fun, light-hearted, but still a little sentimental. That’s the compass I used for all of my judgement, “will this make my guests feel good inside?” From our music choices and our made up umbrella candy shower ceremony, to our pulp fiction inspired first dance, we wanted to keep it fun and a little weird.
“I decided on a ‘Love is Weird’ theme, not only because it suited our relationship, but also because I knew it would justify me basically throwing together things I liked for the decor. Nick and I met at the School of Filmmaking at North Carolina School of the Arts, and a lot of the items we used for the decor were actually set dressing I have left over from films I’ve art directed or designed.”
