Heather and Gavin’s wedding, photographed by Claire Basiuk Photography, took place at The Ashes in Endon, Staffordshire, and was a relaxed affair, with the bride wearing a simple Stephanie Allin gown, the groomsmen sporting trainers, and a suitcase full of macaroons taking the place of a traditional wedding cake.
“We wanted a very relaxed, ‘natural’ theme, with soft pinks and grey. The ashes has a wonderful barn where the reception is held and it fitted in with our relaxed style, with its open beam work and wooden floors. I wanted the flowers to look hand-picked, so we chose hydrangeas and peonies as the focus with lots of greens and the odd rose.
“We are both very creative so we made quite a few of our props. We made giant numbers for the tables and string hearts for the back wall of the ceremony barn. We also made bunting and cut wooden props like glasses and moustaches, which all got taken home by our guests.
“I fell in love with the designer Stephanie Allin; she has a very relaxed feel to her designs that don’t overpower. I didn’t want to feel like my dress was wearing me, and I wear very little make-up and jewellery so my dress couldn’t be fussy. I chose a simple off-the-shoulder dress with a belted waist, which I echoed by having my bouquet tied with an old leather belt. Gav has a HUGE Adidas fetish so his main focus was his trainers!”
