This week’s real wedding pictures were taken by Captured by Katrina, and are from the beautiful wedding of Sally and Nathaniel. Their wedding took place at Manor Hill House in Worcestershire, and was relaxed, colourful affair, full of beautiful home-grown sweetpeas. The bride even wore a blue dress…
“We wanted our wedding to be very relaxed and laid-back, with a summer garden party feel. There were lots of toddlers and babies coming and it was important to us that families felt very much welcomed and a central part of it all — not least our own little one year old son!
“The venue had lots of outdoor space and we had pinwheels and a bubble machine to add extra colour to the beautiful gardens, and then brought the outdoors in by filling the rooms with home-grown sweetpeas, displaying them on every available surface in a mixture of mismatched glass vases, and on the tables in tiny coffee cups that had been collected by Nat’s late mother. A friend who works with fabrics, and has a little business selling vintage inspired homewares, made us summery screen printed cushions for the lounge, and ran us up stacks of bunting in fabrics bought from the local market, reflecting the sweetpea colours, which we draped everywhere we could! We also hand-made tissue paper bunting based on the Mexican ‘Papel Picado’ flags that I fell in love with on my travels in Latin America, which we printed with a design based on work by Rob Ryan (another personal favourite!) and our own wording.
“We did away with a lot of the ‘traditional’ wedding things that didn’t feel personal — we had homemade cakes on the tables after afternoon tea, which had been frantically made and decorated on the day before the wedding by my mum and my sidekicks (not bridesmaids!), and there was no white dress for me — I wore a bright blue, beautiful, Amanda Wakeley Grecian-style evening dress.
“After weeks of rain the sun came out for us and we had a wonderful day, full of laughter and fun, followed by a band and evening BBQ; a brilliant summer party!”
