A wedding, of course, is about the couple who are committing their lives to one another. However, it’s natural and quite common for families to want an involvement and say in the proceedings.
If you’re looking for a heartfelt way to honour your family, what sweeter way could there be than to say it with your wedding cake.
Use Familiar Flavours
The great thing about cake is that there is so much flexibility. For example, your tiers can be different flavours to accommodate various tastes and requests. With that in mind, flavouring your cake as a nod to a family recipe from each side could be a lovely way to make both sets of parents feel included. It could also be a wonderful gesture and a symbol of both families coming together.
Remember, a cake designer might not be able to follow your family recipe to the letter. However, talk to them about how to bring out those evocative, familiar flavours, and why they mean so much to you.
Cultural Designs
There are many different ways to honour your culture and heritage, and one of them is through your cake design. It’s another great opportunity to symbolise unity and togetherness, particularly if there is more than one cultural background to consider.
You could adapt or combine motifs, symbols, traditions and designs as a tribute to your families’ histories.
Using Heirlooms
If you have a precious family heirloom, or even something of sentimental value passed down to you, why not incorporate it into your cake? There are many creative ways to do this, such as a brooch design emulated with sugar paste. You could also copy lace designs from clothing.
Monograms or Crests
A family monogram or crest could be a sentimental and sweet way to decorate your wedding cake. If you don’t already have one, a wedding is the perfect opportunity to work with a cake or stationery professional to design your own.
A cake would be a spectacular reveal, surprising your friends and family with the new design. Unveil the monogram on your cake, with incorporated elements that are important to everyone.
