The majority of stag and hen parties occur in the summer months, but if you’re fortunate enough to have yours over Halloween you’re in for a treat. Sarah of Last Night of Freedom has rounded up her top ways to celebrate a Halloween hen party or stag do, spooky style…
Edinburgh Ghost Tour
As far as scary activities go, prepare for the hairs on the back of your neck to stand on end with an Edinburgh Ghost Tour. The world-famous Edinburgh Ghost Tour takes you on a mysterious and frightening trail around the darker side of the Scottish capital. On board the 1960’s Routemaster bus you will have your very own creepy conductor, as you experience the scary corners and hidden alleyways of Edinburgh whilst learning about the witches, grave robbers and ghosts that plague this city.
Not only will you take a journey into the horrifying history of Edinburgh, you’ll also visit some of the city’s most iconic attractions. The route includes Edinburgh Castle, The New Town and the notorious bar-lined Grassmarket, ideal for for a spot of Dutch courage to get you through. Some spine-chilling surprises await as you step on board…
Amsterdam Dungeons
Another classic Halloween activity is the Amsterdam Dungeons; where better to head on All Hallows’ Eve than down into the bowels of the ancient city? The Amsterdam Dungeons are a must-see on your send-off in the Dutch capital, taking you on a trip through 500 years of the city’s sinister history. As you begin your journey you’ll descend in the medieval lift, then hear the spine-tingling footsteps of the torturer come ever closer as you enter the torture chamber.
This tour is bigger, better and bolder than any you’ll have seen. With 11 shows taking place over 80 minutes, there’ll be shocks at every turn.
Bucharest Dracula Castle and Transylvania Tour
We can’t go any further without a shout out to the ‘Big Daddy’ of Halloween, Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Bucharest, the dynamic capital of Romania, is home to the seriously spine-chilling Bran Castle, aka Dracula’s home. It’s certainly worth paying a visit to on your Halloween hen party or stag weekend, but, word to the wise, don’t forget to pack your crucifix and garlic cloves. Don’t say we didn’t warn you…
Riga Prison Experience
Shockingly realistic, if you’re seriously brave, take your Halloween hen party or stag do to a disused Russian military prison for a night you’ll never forget. Used by the Russian army to detain sailors for various crimes committed during their active service, this prison still has all its original facilities, which you will get to know very well during your overnight stay.
Upon arrival you’ll undergo a search and a medical assessment, take a mugshot and even receive your own prisoner registration cards. The staff, who actually used to work at the prison, will make your life hell — shouting, screaming and generally torturing you. Whether you choose to stay in your cell overnight, or aimlessly wander the eerie corridors, you’re definitely not getting any sleep with this one…
Halloween Hen/Stag Accessories
If you’re having a DIY Halloween hen party or stag do, you must make sure that you’ve accessorised it right. Of course, you’ll have already carved your pumpkins and draped cobwebs across every surface in your venue, but have you got your glow stick bracelets and necklaces to turn any darkened room into a neon rave? And what about drinks? Have you got your shots in test tubes and jello syringes? If not, it’s really not a Halloween hen or stag do at all.
