Planning a wedding can bring even the strongest bride out in a cold sweat, so it’s important to organise a wonderfully relaxing and glamorous hen weekend for the lady of the moment. More and more hen parties are leaving the drizzly UK and jetting off to sun-kissed, far-flung corners of the globe. Lauren of Last Night of Freedom rounds-up five gorgeous beach hen weekend locations to relax and celebrate in style…
Marbella, Spain
A swish, chic and glamorous choice for your hen do.
Surrounded by golden beaches, Marbella is a regular haunt for A-list celebs, not to mention the TOWIE stars (no carbs before Marbs, girls), with some of the best beach clubs in the world lining the picturesque promenade. Marbella’s wonderful attractions, including neighbouring Puerto Banus, will keep you and your hens entertained throughout the day.
At night Marbella comes alive, and will sweep you up with its sheer exhuberance. The beach clubs in this gorgeous city are in a world of their own; from the super VIP Nikki Beach, with their famous champagne spray parties and huge sun loungers on the outdoor terrace, to the Trocadero with their mouth-watering cuisine and relaxing location in the Rio Real, one of the best beaches in Marbella.
Barcelona, Spain
An enchanting and wonderfully diverse location for your beach hen weekend.
Barcelona, the beautiful and characterful Catalan city, boasts a wealth of iconic attractions, including breathtaking architecture and the main tourist strip, La Rambla, and the brilliantly beautiful and historical Gothic Quarter, the centre of the Old City of Barcelona.
This Mediterranean metropolis is peppered with lively bars and clubs — it’s a hen do haven. La Rambla is the natural starting point for your hen do in the city. This strip is heaving after dark, with restaurants and bars spilling out into the street and hundreds of locals, and tourists alike, drinking under the moonlight. The more traditional venues lie in the Gothic Quarter, with the labyrinth of alleyways hosting some of the city’s best kept secrets.
Sunny Beach, Bulgaria
A popular choice for hen weekends across the globe.
Sunny Beach, Bulgaria’s answer to the bustling Costa del Sol, is a partygoer’s paradise, with gorgeous golden beaches, cheap cocktails, and absolutely huge clubs jam-packed with the ‘it’ crowd of Bulgaria and world-famous DJs.
Sunny Beach, or Eastern Europe’s Ibiza as we like to call it, is best known for its bonkers nightlife. It has some truly mesmerising clubs, including one of the most popular, Revolution. Drawing in hundreds of likeminded folk, Revolution boasts a whopping dance floor, unrivalled sound show and Ministry of Sound nights. For a more chilled celebration, relax in the uber-luxurious Bedroom Beach Club, the playground for the rich and famous.
Hamburg, Germany
A hidden gem for a beach hen weekend.
Hamburg may not be the first choice for a sun-kissed hen weekend, but it’s a hidden gem for beaches. With tropical islands, traditional seaside resorts, an island referred to as the ‘Beverley Hills of Germany’ and urban beaches lining the bustling port, you and the girls will be coming home with a beautiful bronze glow.
Hamburg has cool, laid-back, edgy beach clubs that transform after dark — you’ll find yourself partying until the early hours. This city also has beautiful islands just off the coast, including Sylt, connected by a causeway and railway line. This is a hugely popular tourist destination, famed for its affluent and luxurious Westerland area of the island. The beautiful island and white sandy beaches make for a tranquil change from the city centre of Hamburg.
Algarve, Portugal
World-famous for its sunny Mediterranean climate and white, sandy beaches.
This gorgeous Portuguese region is perfect for sun-worshipping hens. The alluring Algarve is a tourism hot spot, and has a wealth of glamorous and exclusive bars where you can while away the hours drinking cocktails under the stars. Put simply, the Algarve has everything you could possibly need for your beach hen weekend. Adrenaline-fuelled water sport activities, succulent seafood cuisine, sun-kissed senhors, delightful Portuguese boutiques and, of course, fascinating towns, including the breathtaking Albufeira.
The Algarve nightlife is hard to beat — relaxing bars boasting outdoor terraces to lively clubs and jet-set beach clubs. The huge variety of venues will leave you spoilt for choice on your last night of freedom.
