Many brides seek a 1950’s inspired look for their wedding make-up. Given the iconic, timeless beauty of the images of Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly, it is easy to understand why this is a style that is very much in vogue.
The key to creating a 1950’s inspired bridal look lies in the eyes. The image shown below is from a bridal photo-shoot I worked on, and is all about soft eyes with a well-defined lash line, with immaculate contouring and the red lips as a focal point.
I love this look, and if you want to create it (or something similar), the products I used were as follows:
Eyes
For the eyes, I used Nars Alhambra Eyeshadow on the eyelid, with Trish McEvoy Glaze Eye Shadow in Tawny and Sable Bronze on the crease to create definition.
To achieve perfect flicked eyeliner I used three products:
- Laura Mercier Black Ebony Eye Liner applied in between the lashes with a Laura Mercier Flat Eye Liner Brush.
- Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner in Gel Ink.
- Laura Mercier Noir Matte Eye Colour applied with Laura Mercier Pointed Eyeliner Brush on top of the gel eyeliner to create the perfect line. This also sets the liner and makes it waterproof.
Face and Lips
I shaped the face using of six different shades of foundation, concealer, and powder.
Finally, I used Nars Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl for the red lips. For a more classical look, it would also be easy to substitute the red lips for pink or peach.
So, there you have it; a 1950’s inspired make-up look that hopefully looks just as relevant for a modern bride.
