Choosing a first dance song can be a challenge for couples. You can’t get away from the fact that the song you choose for this very special moment will stand out forever, so the pressure can start to mount. Do you go for something traditional, tried and tested, or do you brave standing out from the crowd with something new?

If it’s the latter, help is at hand, because we’ve picked our top 10 first dance songs which are proving a hit with couples in 2019…

1. Beyond — Leon Bridges

Leon Bridges contemplates romantic destiny on ‘Beyond’, a soulful track from his second LP, ‘Good Thing’. “I’m scared to death that she might be it/ That the love is real, that the shoe might fit”.

2. Always Remember Us This Way — Lady Gaga (From ‘A Star Is Born’)

The songs from the early part of the Hollywood blockbuster are almost impenetrably perfect for a First Dance, and the explosive ‘Always Remember Us This Way’ is no exception.

3. The End of Love — Florence and the Machine

On ‘The End of Love’ Welch’s voice comes in with gorgeously textured harmonies, unfolding elegantly as she details a finished relationship. Whilst it’s not the most obvious subject for a first dance song, the bittersweet lyrical recollections resonate with a lot of couples.

4. Us — James Bay and Alicia Keys

Some James Bay fans will already know the original version of this song. But the addition of Alicia Keys’ velvety vocals and her talented piano playing makes it utterly captivating, and an awesome song choice for a first dance.

5. You Are the Reason — Calum Scott feat. Leona Lewis

Following in the vein of his hit cover ‘Dancing On My Own’, this new track is an emotionally resonant piano ballad sure to get your mind thinking and your toes tapping on the dance floor.

6. Nervous — Shawn Mendes

This Prince-inspired pop/R&B song isn’t really like anything we have heard from Shawn Mendes before. Known for having an acoustic guitar in his hands, it’s a welcome change of pace and perfect for young couples.

7. Better with You — Michl

Michl himself has explained how this track would be an ideal first dance song, saying about the song “When you love and are loved back, everything else becomes irrelevant.”

8. Never Be the Same — Camila Cabello

Over droning synths Cabello whispers about how love messes with the chemicals in her brain. “Never be the Same…” can be viewed like a testament to married life in a first dance context.

9. Guiding Light — Mumford and Sons

‘Guiding Light’ sees Mumford and Sons return to their acoustic origins with a compelling number which builds throughout. “‘Cause even when there is no star in sight, you’ll always be my only guiding light”. Ahhhhh!

10. Love Someone — Lukas Graham

In this soft acoustic single, Graham expresses a universal message of love. While the song is personal, it is also relatable to everyone who’ll give it their ears.

We hope this has left you feeling inspired, and maybe you’ll choose one of these songs for the first dance at your 2019 wedding.
