For most mums, getting their wedding day look right can be just as stressful as it is for their daughter who is getting married. As well as co-ordinating with the mother of the groom (making sure colours don’t clash or style is similar) they also have to ensure they don’t upstage the bride, while still looking their very best!

Mother of the Bride

I think Carole Middleton is an example of a mother of the bride who got it just right, with her stunning Catherine Walker sky-blue coat dress and chic understated matching pendant and earrings. Hilary Clinton’s wedding jewellery also looked super-stylish at the wedding of her daughter, Chelsea. Her Oscar de la Renta fuchsia evening dress was set off with a statement crystal necklace and simple earrings.

So, here are some of my ideas for mother of the bride accessories you could go for…

Necklace Set

A matching necklace and earring set is a simple stylish way of setting your wedding outfit off nicely.

Brooch

Brooches have made a come-back in recent years, especially with Michelle Obama’s penchant for unique pieces and the resurgence of all things vintage. A brooch is also a nice gift for a bride to give her mum to wear, as it will bring back lovely memories every time her mum wears it after the big day.

Pearls

You can never go wrong with pearls. They are classic and flattering and come in a variety of styles (lariats, chokers, simple string of pearls). Choose the necklace style that works best with the neckline of your dress.

Clutch Bag

Finally, a small clutch bag is a must have (to keep those tissues in), either matching the colour of your dress or contrasting and working with your other accessories.

Selina Handbag

The golden rule with mother of the bride accessories is to keep it simple and not too fussy. If you are choosing a statement hat or fascinator then tone down the accessories. Less is (in this case) definitely more.
