We are the UK’s original petal growers who provide beautiful, natural and 100% biodegradable flower petals for wedding confetti and decorations.

How did The Real Flower Petal Confetti Company get started and how long has the business been going?

Back in 1997 Charles Hudson was looking for ways to diversify the farming on his family estate when he stumbled upon the idea of real flower confetti. The story goes that Charles was walking home one evening and noticed a mess outside the lych-gate of the village church — tiny wet pieces of coloured paper, debris from an earlier wedding. He appreciated why so many churches ban the use of confetti within church grounds because of this mess, but it seemed a shame that the wedding celebrations could not have started as the happy couple stepped out of the church. When he arrived home some petals fell from the bouquet Charles was carrying for his wife and he experienced a ‘eureka’ moment — the idea of Real Flower Petal Confetti was born!

Charles started experimenting with growing flowers and carefully developed his own delicate process of drying petals using just sunshine and fresh air. Every petal is picked by hand and orders are packed to the customer’s bespoke requests. The traditional simplicity of the idea of throwing flower petals and the fact that they biodegrade as naturally as blossom meant that his confetti was instantly loved by brides and grooms, churches and venues, and the business grew from there.

What areas of the country does The Real Flower Petal Confetti Company cover?

We cover the whole of the UK and the world!

Who works at The Real Flower Petal Confetti Company?

The Real Flower Petal Confetti Company is a part of Charles’ family farming estate — Glenn manages the farm, Pawel looks after the flower fields in the summer, and Nancy, Sally and Tracey work in The Confetti Office; taking orders, advising customers and packing up the confetti by hand, as well as running the website, social media and admin aspects of the company.

Where do you get your petals from?

We grow the Delphinium and Wildflower Petals on our farm. A huge field is planted each year and fabulous stripes of coloured flowers bloom each July — we have lots of visitors come to have a look because it’s a spectacular sight!

The demand for natural, biodegradable confetti was so great that we expanded our range to include rose petals, hydrangeas and lavender, to give customers a wider choice of colours and styles. We have carefully sourced these petals from other trusted growers.

What prices are your confetti products?

We sell our petals by the good old English pint — this contains 10 handfuls of petals and prices start from £7.50. We also have a large selection of individual packing options that start from £1.99.

On average, how much confetti would each wedding guest need?

We recommend a handful of confetti per wedding guest, so a one pint bag will be enough for 10 people. You could buy a sachet, envelope or petal bag per person or per couple if you have a large wedding, and if you want to get that special photograph it might be worth getting a little extra just in case your photographer wants a retake! There are no rules as to how much you should have — some couples like to involve all their guests and others just a few close friends and family.

Can you match most colour schemes and how does this work?

Yes, of course! The best way is to use our bespoke sample service — you can choose up to eight petals so you can see the exact shade and style of each one, making it easy to decide which will work with your colour theme or style. You can also call us for advice or even email your mood board over to us and we can make suggestions!

We also sell a few other wedding essentials and decorative items like skeleton leaves and handmade good-luck horseshoes.

How are your products packaged and delivered?

We pack every order by hand to the bespoke mix that the customer has chosen. We take care over each box and wrap it all up in tissue paper. We are proud to use Royal Mail for all our deliveries and we do offer a next day service if you’ve left it a bit late!

Do you have a favourite product?

It’s really hard to pick a favourite petal or mixture but we love it when a customer chooses an unusual petal combination that we haven’t seen for a long time. The same petal can look strikingly different when mixed with different things.

My current favourite mix is Raspberry and Ivory Delphiniums with Marigold Wildflowers — super pretty and cheerful — what more could you want from your confetti?!

What’s the best thing about your job?

Working at The Real Flower Petal Confetti Company is great fun because we are a small team and do everything ourselves, so there are always new challenges and ideas to explore. It’s wonderful working with customers to help them find petals to make their wedding day a little bit lovelier, and we all especially enjoy chatting to a mum or mother-in-law-to-be who has been given the job of getting the confetti petals. They are always excited and take great care over selecting exactly the right mix. We love it when they later send us a photo in the post or via email of the happy couple being showered with petals — it’s so nice to contribute to someone’s special day.
