Please tell us a little about St Audries Park’s history
St Audries Park was built as a Private Manor House, and was originally owned by Sir Baldwin Malet, who started extensive building works to the manor and estate; Many generations of Malets followed.
The Estate was sold to the Balch family when further changes were made to the manor; a third floor and a gothic porch were added, and a magnificent Orangery was built within the grounds and used as a private Chapel. One of their nine children, Christiana, devised a shell grotto using local sea shells from St Audries Bay, together with some brought back from her trip abroad during her Grand Tour.
In 1848 the estate was bought by Sir Peregrine Fuller Palmer Acland for his daughter Isobel, and remained in the Acland Hood family until 1934 when it became a private boarding school for girls. St Audries hosted its first wedding in 2003.
