Interview With: Rebecca
Company Name: Rebecca Wedding Photography
Location / Coverage: Hertfordshire / all over the world
Have you always wanted to be a photographer? Can you remember how old you were when you took your first picture and what it was of?
I knew from an early age I wanted to be a photographer and I still love it as much as I did then.
I can remember my Dad giving me his 70’s Canon AE-1 film camera as a child and instantly falling in love with the shutter noise! You can’t beat an old film camera for its shutter noise.
I loved seeing the world through this little window and catching moments others might not have seen. I think my first photos must have been of my Grannie’s cat. I was obsessed with trying to cuddle it, but thinking about it now it absolutely hated it and I’d always come home covered in scratches! So all my first photos were massive scenic shots with a little cat running off into the distance.
What inspired you to follow your heart and become a wedding photographer?
I’m a huge romantic and love the idea of capturing one of the most romantic and sweetest days in everyone’s life. I started photographing friends’ weddings over 6 years ago and now I am totally hooked!
Which areas of the UK do you cover?
I’m based in Hemel Hempstead, Herfordshire and I’m happy to travel all over for weddings; this year I’m off to Wales, Yorkshire, Scotland and Italy!
What do you feel sets you apart from other wedding photographers?
For me I think it’s my relaxed approach to our meetings and photography on the day; nothing is too serious or stuffy, that’s just not me. I like to get to know each couple so I can capture those natural, romantic and fun moments from the day.
What’s been the best thing about the job?
Really it’s got to be meeting so many lovely, funny, interesting and cool couples; it’s been brilliant! The cherry on the top is when they actually want to hear about my wedding photography! (I do go on about it bit too much you see)
Do you have a specialist area or style of photography?
My style is really relaxed and romantic; lots of natural lighting and slight vintage colours, nothing is too serious or forced, just lots and lots of fun.
What packages do you offer to couples for their wedding?
I don’t do the usual packages, instead I have more of a breakdown price list and let my couples have the opportunity to choose what they’d like, with no pressure — this has been really popular so I’m very pleased.
Who/what are your influences?
I get a lot of inspiration from films. I used to work in a video store and watch all kinds of films from all over the world — I love cinematography. I’m also a big day dreamer so my mind wanders and I like to envision photographic ideas and poses.
Do you have a favourite picture you have taken (If you can choose!)?
I have so many favourite photos so it’s really hard to pick one, but I love this image from a recent wedding I photographed in the Bedfordshire countryside. The couple were so sweet and comfortable with me and I had this idea for the bride to hug the groom and rest her head on his back — it worked so incredibly well — this photograph make’s me smile and feel relaxed.
What is your top tip for choosing a wedding photographer?
My top tip would be to choose someone you feel totally comfortable with and who you can best communicate your super ideas to. It’s also definitely a good idea to see a range of full wedding pictures to get an idea of all the photos you’ll receive. I personally love it when my couples ask me questions and my opinion; I want you to feel totally happy and confident in my skills.
Random question… Starbucks or Costa Coffee?
Starbucks for the Hot Chocolate and Cake Pops! Yum….
