Who/what is Ingle & Rhode?

Ingle & Rhode is the UK’s leading ethical fine jeweller. Essentially we are the ethical alternative to the traditional luxury brands.

How did Ingle & Rhode start and how long has the business been going?

In 2006 David Rhode was looking for an engagement ring but couldn’t find a jeweller with a transparent supply chain. The more he looked into the industry, the more compromises he discovered he was being asked to make, from blood diamonds to dirty gold, to sweatshops and child labour. Together David and his friend Tim Ingle launched Ingle & Rhode to address this gap in the market.

What jewellery do you offer?

Our core business is engagement rings and wedding bands, with quite a few eternity rings too. We can make anything though, and we have seen increasing numbers of commissions for earrings, necklaces and pendants.

You pride yourselves on being ethical fine jewellers. What does this mean and why is this important to you and your business?

For us, this is all about traceability in our supply chain, which is fully transparent. This is surprisingly rare in the jewellery business. For example, we source pure gold and platinum from only certified Fairtrade or recycled sources. Our diamonds and gems can be traced back to mine of origin, and aren’t just guaranteed conflict-free, but come only from suppliers who treat workers with dignity and respect, and mitigate their impact on the environment. The same standards apply to every piece, this is not an optional add-on.

Do you design and make each of the rings?

We handle the design and manufacture of every ring, we don’t carry anyone else’s stock.

Where do you get the inspiration for your ring designs from?

There are countless sources of inspiration, but many of them come from nature. We get a lot of inspiration from our clients

Do you offer a bespoke service?

This is a core part of our business. For the first six years every ring was made to order — it’s only in the last couple of years that we’ve developed our own collection. You can find out more about our bespoke service here.

Where can couples get inspiration for their bespoke rings?

It could be from anywhere — a favourite piece of artwork, a special place, a historical reference. It doesn’t matter where it’s from, as long as it’s special for them.

Describe Ingle & Rhode in three words.

Exceptional Every Time.

What’s your favourite piece that Ingle & Rhode has produced?

Personally, I love the rings that combine coloured gemstones with diamonds, but it’s really hard to pick a single piece.

Random question… Where is your favourite place in the UK and why?

It’s not easy to single out just one place! We love London and the vibrancy and diversity of this amazing city, but the UK has so many great towns, and beautiful countryside and coastline too!
