Clearwell Castle is a Neo Gothic Castle dating from 1727, remodelled from an earlier house built in the 1400’s.

Clearwell Castle has a magnificent Castle façade with a warm country house interior. Situated in the beautiful Forest of Dean it is set in landscaped gardens offering privacy, peace and quiet, yet within easy reach of the village.

The team at Clearwell Castle comprises hard working and dedicated wedding experts. We are local to the area and all have an established background in weddings so we are able to advise our couples on just how to create their dream wedding in our beautiful castle setting.

Is Clearwell Castle licensed for wedding ceremonies?

The magnificent Ballroom is licensed for civil ceremonies and boasts a 75ft aisle, allowing the bride to really make an entrance. The Ballroom offers a unique and serene setting that is usually only found in churches, created by the ornate leaded glass windows and Dias at one end. For sunnier days the Terrace provides a stunning setting for an outdoor ceremony.

What is the capacity for a wedding ceremony and reception at Clearwell Castle?

Clearwell Castle can seat a maximum of 160 guests for a wedding breakfast and we offer a range of table plan arrangements to suit every family group. We can accommodate up to 250 guests during the evening in our dedicated Cellar Bar.

Do you offer exclusive use?

Yes, strictly one wedding a day. One of the main benefits of choosing Clearwell Castle for your wedding day is that you have it all to yourself and it very quickly feels like home!

Does Clearwell Castle have its own caterers or can couples choose to bring in their own caterers?

Our own in-house team of professional chefs provide a choice for canapés, wedding breakfast and evening buffet from their extensive menus. Carefully thought out and designed to suit the preferences of all of our couples, the choice is almost too much!

What would a typical wedding breakfast at Clearwell Castle be?

At Clearwell Castle there is no typical wedding breakfast! Each and every one of our couples has their own ideas on what they would like, and our aim is to tailor-make their day to match exactly!

Does Clearwell Castle have any rooms for guests to stay?

Clearwell Castle has 15 luxury bedrooms reserved exclusively for the couple and their guests for the night of the wedding. We also have several estate cottages that allow for the main bridal party to stay the night before. If one day is simply not enough, we also have a two day wedding package!

How many weddings does Clearwell Castle hold per year on average?

In the region of 200 weddings a year, but each and every one is different and in no way does a couple ever feel like one of many!

Does Clearwell Castle have a wedding co-ordinator on site and are they available on the day of the wedding?

As part of the package we offer, we provide the couple with a dedicated ‘Front of House Manager’ to help plan and oversee the smooth running of their day.
