How did your business get started and who works at Andrew Keher Photography?

My business came about almost by accident. My background is in construction (I’m a qualified Quantity Surveyor!), but following the economic downturn in my sector I felt compelled to seek other income avenues, just in case. I discovered I really, really enjoyed taking photographs of people and it just seemed a natural progression to weddings.

Photography was always a hobby of mine but it turns out I was far better at taking photographs and running my own business than I ever was at working in a 9 to 5 office! That’s not to say this all happened overnight; I’ve worked my socks off, many days from early in the morning to well after midnight in order to study and hone my techniques. It’s a constant learning experience and I’ll never stop striving.

Had you always wanted to be a photographer?

Not really! I’d always wanted to be a police officer, but due to my poor eyesight at the time it never became a reality. A good few years later and luckily, following laser surgery, I have perfect vision now — it does come in handy in my line of work. My younger brother has ended up joining the police instead!

Can you remember how old you were when you took your first picture? What was it of?

Sorry, can’t remember! It was probably really rubbish though!

Which areas of the UK do you cover?

I am available to cover weddings throughout the UK as I love photographing new venues, but I mainly cover the North West of England.

What do you feel sets you apart from other wedding photographers?

My goal is to make my images as beautiful and timeless as possible. I don’t try to copy anybody else and I work hard to create unique photographs that hopefully blow the couple away!

How would you describe your photography style?

Bold, crisp, colourful and natural!

What packages do you offer and what are your rates?

I keep my packages as simple as possible. My digital-only package is £1,450 and includes an online gallery and the images in a pretty swanky wooden presentation box. Albums are also available.

What is the best thing about your job?

Being my own boss and working with people who are having the best day of their lives.

Do you have a specialist area of photography?

Weddings are specialist enough for me!

Who/what are your influences?

Two Mann Studios are a big inspiration for me. While our styles differ wildly, they produce jaw-dropping images that push me to try harder every time I pick up a camera.

Do you have a favourite picture that you have taken (If you can choose!)?

This changes every week, but my current favourite is one I took on Formby beach during an engagement session. I purposefully placed the couple so that they appeared to be walking on water, and with the sunset I think it came out really magical.

What is your top tip for choosing a wedding photographer?

Difficult as it is, don’t make your decision based solely on price. Long after the cake has been eaten, the food is all gone and the dress is hung up at the back of the wardrobe, your photographs will be your memories of the day.

Random question… What it your favourite TV show at the moment?

Trailer Park Boys. It’s a cult comedy from Canada, like a live-action South Park. Catch it on Netflix!
