Today’s bridal shoot is a very special one, and we are delighted to be able to share it with you, but there is a very sad story that was the reason behind this shoot…
In 2013, Tasha, owner of Ikonworks, learned that her mother-in-law Helen had been diagnosed with breast cancer, with secondary metastasis ultimately going to her brain and spine and, heartbreakingly, she lost her fight in August 2013.
After the devastating loss, Natasha did everything she could to keep herself busy and her mind off the recent events. One day while on Facebook she saw a post from a fellow wedding supplier, Kirstie Taylor of bridal accessory company Flo and Percy, asking if any photographers would like to borrow their new collection for a photo shoot. Tasha jumped at the chance…
“What would any normal bling-loving, wedding-mad photographer do? Um, dare I? Yes please… oh why not! For a split second I think maybe Mum had something to do with it; a cheer Tasha up intervention.”
At that moment the bridal shoot was born.
“Where the hell do you start planning a bridal shoot? Immerse yourself in everything that says bridal shoot. Revelation — ‘In Mum’s memory’ — I would base the shoot around her. I really believe that ‘this would not have happened without you’.
“I decided on the colours pink, peach and turquoise, as some of the last flowers I bought Mum were pink and peach, and one of the t-shirts she liked wearing was turquoise. These colours also fit quite well with an ‘Indian Summer’ theme which is the name of the new Flo and Percy collection.
“I met with Blooming Workshop (two ladies who I have wanted to work with for AGES) to discuss the shoot. One of the ladies used to be a cancer nurse, who suggested linking the shoot to a cancer charity in memory of Mum. Remembering having read about Naomi Thomas, founder of The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation, I found myself in a lay-by on the A303 writing on a receipt to contact her. At 4am I emailed asking her to be involved and model too… her response was hilarious, but she came along just after picking up her Daily Mail Inspirational Woman Award from Brucie, after not one but two trips to Downing Street.
“I stalked poor Ian Stuart on Facebook to see if we could borrow his amazing dresses for the shoot… I am sure he gave up in the end, loaning me the dresses to shut me up!
“What makes this shoot different? We deliberately used high street, affordable and high end luxury together; creating something elegant and beautiful.
“The Royal Suite at the Four Seasons is a DREAM! We wanted to create an intimate and romantic feeling in the room, and therefore chose not to set a large banqueting table, this could however easily be re-created on a table seating a larger number of guests.”
