We just love the pictures from this shoot, photographed by D’Arcy Benincosa Photography! When D’Arcy lived in Europe, one of her favourite places was The Scottish Highlands, and having read about the rich culture she wanted to bring some of the old traditions to the highlands of Park City, Utah…
“Traditional Scottish weddings are small affairs, and include customs such as the Maid of Honour washing the bride’s feet before the ceremony, the joining of hands with clan tartan during the ceremony, toasting with the finest Scotch, eating lots of bread and cheese during the reception, and getting married in the highland groves.
“The lovely arch was handcrafted and tied together using limbs from the local willow trees and as the leaves were cut fresh that morning they remained green while all the other trees in the mountains were variations of the bride’s red hair. The arch echoed the green of the bridesmaid dresses from Anthropologie, while the furs came from our grandmothers’ closets.
“The hair and make-up was a simple affair; lightly crafted braids that could be taken right off an ancient or modern Scottish lassie, the make-up of warm colours and soft highlights. The invitations and thank you notes were handcrafted, with delicate calligraphy expressing the Scottish phrase ‘Moran Taing’, meaning ‘Many Thanks’. The challenge given to the florist was to create wedding flowers based around the Scottish thistle, which was used throughout the bouquets and the centrepieces. The final thing we wanted to make this shoot transport us to Scotland was the professional bagpipe player we hired to come and play.
“This shoot was simply stunning; each image has a golden glow that is unique to this little wedding. The locals of Park City came out from their houses to see the event and the feeling of community that is present in the images is tangible. It was a perfect day, and all that we hoped it would be.”
