Rouille may not be a word you’ve come across before so, if not, let me enlighten you. It means ‘rust’ in French, and it sounds so much nicer in French than English, don’t you think? This rouille wedding shoot uses a colour palette including shades of orange, brown and beige to create such romantic styling.

Creative stylist and photographer Lizelle Goussard took inspiration from a famous quote as the foundation for this concept…

“My soul is full of longing for the secret of the sea, and the heart of the great ocean sends a thrilling pulse through me.” — Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Lizelle explains, “The reason why I paired the rust colour with an ocean location is that things tend to rust when close to the ocean, and old items washed up onto the beach are usually full of rust.

As you’ll see, this styling would be perfect for an intimate beach wedding or elopement, but you could also recreate it on a greater scale for a larger affair.

Rustic Styling

The busy, rustic table styling using natural elements complements the scenery perfectly. Unstructured florals, candles, drift wood and old glass bottles sit in the centre of linen deliberately draped in an almost untidy manner, creating a rippled effect akin to waves breaking onto the shore. To complete the look, the place settings include rust coloured napkins, wooden table mats, and a sea shell to honour the location.

The bridal styling is just as beautiful, with two gowns specifically chosen to work with the colour scheme. The first includes stunning leaf and floral embellishments and a deep illusion neckline, and the second has hues of brown. The bride’s extra long veil gives a dramatic effect, and her fabulous free-form floral bouquet of peach, blush and white flowers loosely tied with rust-coloured ribbon complements both looks perfectly.

From the textured card used for the wedding stationery, to the rough-iced wedding cake with pops of rust detail, each element has been so carefully thought out. Our thanks go to Lizelle for sharing the beautiful pictures of this romantic rouille beach wedding styling…
