When you think of the colour yellow, what emotions does it evoke? For me it brings feelings of summer, the warm sun, soft sand and happiness. That’s exactly why I love this styling concept; quite simply, it makes me happy! You might think that yellow wedding styling could be too bold, but when it’s a soft, delicate shade, yellow can be understated, romantic and elegant.
When you look at the beautiful ideas in this shoot, captured by Jeremy Chou Photography, I’m sure you will fall in love with the idea of using yellow in your wedding styling. This concept is minimal, simplistic, and offers such romantic vibes.
The floral designs are where the pop of subtle yellow wedding flowers make an incredible impact. Paired with beautiful green foliage and soft blush the yellow comes to life, and the wild looking, unstructured bouquet mirrors the design of the table arrangements.
The bridal style emulates the romantic styling of the tablescape too. These dresses! There are two wedding dresses worn in this shoot, and both are so gorgeous and complement the styling perfectly, especially the blush floral design (this is one of my favourite wedding dresses I’ve featured recently).
From elegant cakes and treats to simple place settings, everything about this shoot screams romance, which is, of course, exactly what a wedding is all about!
Elegantly Subdued
“We find from experience that yellow excites a warm and agreeable impression… The eye is gladdened, the heart expanded and cheered, a glow seems at once to breathe toward us.” — Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
“Yellow exudes joy, happiness and cheer, but is an often underutilised colour in fine art wedding design. We drew inspiration for this bridal session from the blush tulle, rose gold sequins and yellow appliqué flowers on an exceptionally designed Emily Riggs gown. The desire was to show how the boldest, sunniest colour can be elegantly subdued.
“Paired with a second, equally detailed white gown, the yellow colour also shines in the floral arrangements and vintage glassware. More minimal elements like the invitation suite and vintage ostrich feather fan balance the appliqué embellishment.
“Photographed in the newly renovated chapel and on the back lawn of the National Cathedral School in Washington, DC, the shoot mimics the bridal portrait elements of a real wedding day. Our bride first poses in front of large windows for portraits, and later gracefully swishes her gown on the lawn behind the impressive European-style architecture of the school. Dainty tablescape and dessert displays round out our details, ensuring that the overall design is indeed ‘warm and agreeable’.”
