Today’s feature is a really beautiful styled shoot, inspired by our wonderful countryside hedgerows. With Stratton Court Barn as the backdrop the creative team behind this shoot have really worked their magic. We love all the natural elements, including the bark filled candle vases, the moss covered ladder for the seating plan, and the fresh figs and blackberries used on the exquisite naked wedding cake. With the vibrant orange and purple flowers, everything about this shoot oozes rustic charm…
“The idea behind the shoot was to showcase the gorgeous rich colours and textures of autumn, following a discussion on the wonderful purples of blackberries and what you could find in the hedgerow. Stratton Court Barn is a gorgeous Farm venue — a blank canvas for you to style to suit your day. It’s a super-flexible venue so you really can make it suit your needs.
“Stratton has a gorgeous large wooden table which we styled as a whole to give brides something a little different to think about. We also used regular things they might be used to seeing, but tried to use them in creatively different ways, so the ladder covered in moss as the table plan, and the log slices to stack in the corner, decorated in flowers and candles to bring something different to a plain corner in the room.
“The flowers on the table are more of a runner than a traditional arrangement, which allows for more freedom; lights could be woven in here as well to give some evening sparkle lights. Traditional candle sticks provided another focal point and suited the barn setting.
“The cake was 3 different flavours — coffee, chocolate and carrot — to link the colours of the day, and it was decorated with autumn fruits and a dusting of sugar, with flowers helping to bring it all together.
“For the models’ hair we used flowers in a more delicate way, as we know not everyone wants large flower garlands in their hair, so we grouped flowers to reflect those in the bouquet, a move from the small clusters of gypsophila. We kept the overall styling relaxed to suit the country vibe present throughout the venue, but we did introduce Downtown Abbey twists, with lace capes to show that you can give hints of any theme you want, in a relaxed way. You can also see the fashionable fishtail and other more relaxed hairstyles.
“Make-up doesn’t need to be subtle either; we used strong lip colours to tie in with the strong colours of the flowers.”
