My, how we love the pictures by Khaki Bedford Photography from Andrea and Grace’s amazing wedding at The Green Building in Brooklyn, New York. Full of colour, creativity and character, their wedding was super stylish, quirky and fun. A display of colourful objects that each signified something special to the couple was set up for guests to admire, and guests could type a personal note on a vintage typewriter. Andrea and Grace set the mood of the evening by playing a clip from The Muppets before they walked down the aisle, and the fun and quirkiness continued all night…
“The night was about us, our friends and family, and what we’ve built over the years, not a promise of what could be. What we really wanted was a party.
“We didn’t exactly have colours or a theme, but one thread that ran throughout was ‘our favourite things.’ Our save the date was illustrated by Small Adventure, and featured some of our favourite things — Pee-wee Herman, books, Windex, gems, and our cats.
“I head up merchandising at Fab.com, so much of the decor either came from Fab or straight from our apartment; we wanted the space to feel like an extension of our home. Our best pal Barry made the doughnut tree and we made all the pennants from paint chips. Andrea’s mom made a mini jar of homemade strawberry jam for each guest and my mom did all of the flower arrangements. The food was a mix of Asian and Southern (like us) and we had our favourite doughnuts and cold brew for dessert.
“Our vows weren’t exactly traditional; I promised Andrea that I would eat breakfast every morning and Andrea promised that she’d lie if she doesn’t like my hair cut — I’ve eaten breakfast every day since.
“Our wedding was such a natural extension of who we are. While the event had the general structure of a wedding, we were pretty adamant that we’d do it on our terms. It was all about what we love and who we love — a Muppet video, plastic dinosaurs, vintage vases, library card catalogue place cards with personalized typed notes, calamansi margaritas, not a single slow song, a reading of the Majority Opinion in ‘Goodridge v. Department of Public Health’…”
