“We are both from the Liverpool area but had a holiday in Somerset and fell in love with Combe House Hotel in Holford. When we got engaged, after looking at a couple of venues around the city we both felt that nothing compared to Combe House and it would be an ideal wedding venue for the style of wedding we wanted. We decided to make a weekend of it and asked all our friends and family to join us on the Friday in Somerset and stay for a couple of nights.
“From the outset we wanted a vintage tea party themed wedding, and the marquee in the grounds of the hotel was the perfect venue for our wedding reception. To achieve the look we had tables set with vintage china, cake stands decorated with flowers for the centrepieces, alongside teapots and decorated jam jars. To complement this theme we had hessian and lace table runners and table numbers. Our favourite part of the decoration was the bunting, all 120 metres of it, which was handmade by my step mum and friend.
“We handmade a lot of things, including our save the dates and invites, chalkboard signs for around the grounds of the venue, and jam jars decorated with hessian and lace. The wedding favours were little jars of homemade jam, made by my step mum, and decorated by ourselves in hessian with printed labels.
“I found my dress in a local bridal shop. It was designed by Justin Alexander and it was exactly what I imagined I would like. When I tried it on I knew it was the one, which sounds like a cliche but it’s absolutely true.”
