Nicola and Ed’s wedding reception, photographed by Rebecca Prigmore Photography, took place at The Empress of India in Hackney, a venue that has now sadly closed. The reception followed a ceremony at Islington Town Hall, conducted in the Council Chamber, and the wedding details were based around the couple’s love of London, and the bride’s Scottish heritage.
“The wedding theme was modern vintage and handmade, with a nod to my Scottish heritage and our love of our life in London; quite a mix! We wanted it to be personal and relaxed and for everyone to have a lovely laid back day; a big party!
“To represent Scotland we had a piper, and the wedding flowers included thistles. I did the flowers at the venue myself, with the help of my mum, and I made thistle luggage name tags with a personal message on each one. Each table also had a handmade “guess the length of the speech” sweepstake kit.
“I handmade my birdcage veil, headpiece and garter, and since getting married I have started my own business creating handmade, bespoke accessories for modern, vintage inspired brides.
“Food was important too, and we purposefully had sharing platters of starters, and then the roast meat etc served on big boards, so people would socialise while serving themselves.
“We had a London bus to transport our guests, and I arrived in a black cab. As some of our family had never been to London we arranged a trip around London on the bus as a treat.”
