My, how we love Elizabeth and Dom’s wedding! The bride’s Alexander McQueen shoes, their gorgeous ceremony venue (Normanton Church Museum), the beautiful reception details in the marquee at Elizabeth’s parent’s home — all captured perfectly by Dottie Photography. “Our wedding was 100% us, and I think that on the day everyone understood why we didn’t want a lot of the traditional wedding elements. We did get one or two confused and worried faces during the planning though!
“We wanted to keep the colour scheme as neutral as possible, and wanted a venue which was a completely blank canvas. We hired a marquee for my parent’s garden, and I took some furniture and created different areas by attaching fabric behind the furniture in order for it to feel like separate rooms. The garlands on the chair backs were made from 2000 folded paper doilies, and we filled 200 jam jars with candles to line the pathway.
“For our wedding flowers, with the exception of my bouquet, we used just gypsophila, as I like the simple elegance that comes from using just one flower; I love the cloud like nature of the large bunches. As they have been my favourite flower for a long time, my bouquet was made entirely of peonies.
“We thought long and hard about our favours, mainly because I wanted them to be personal and homemade. In the end I fell in love with the simplicity of using test tubes. I wanted something a bit unusual in them and came across a method for making mint honey. They were so simple and cheap to make and the honey tastes really good.”
