Today we are hoping to brighten up your day with this amazing colourful wedding with fabulous creative details by Elizabeth Anne Weddings, photographed by Whitney Furst for Laura Ivanova Photography. Katherine and Scott had the most amazing wedding that was personalised to them; from the vintage vases belonging to the bride’s mum to the family dog who joined the festivities!
“When Scotty and I first started talking about what kind of wedding we wanted, we immediately envisioned a beach wedding; small, with just immediate family and friends. I am not exactly the typical bride who has dreamed about her wedding for the past 28 years, I really just wanted to make it official! One thing led to another and we just couldn’t make it work for so many different reasons. Driving home from spending New Year at the lake I was feeling a little dejected that all of our wedding plans were basically falling through! We drove past Grand View Lodge in Nisswa, Minnesota, and decided to make a phone call to see if they were available to do a Minnesota wedding in July; they were! We signed a contract the next week. We were getting married, up north, ‘in the woods!’
“We knew we wanted something a little different from the usual wedding. Most importantly I didn’t want a typical “up north, woodsy” wedding with birch bark and pine boughs everywhere! I wanted something unique. Most of all, we wanted all of our guests to feel completely comfortable, sort of like a backyard summer party, but still elegant. I wanted something whimsical with a lot of personal touches.
“We also didn’t want to buy a bunch of stuff that we wouldn’t use again, or waste money on rental items. So, I dug through my mama’s things, stuff I have collected over the years, and sort of came up with a menagerie of things that we already owned; milk glass, antique dishes, mason jars, and other trinkets that somehow came together to make our day really beautiful. The things we did purchase all had to have a purpose once the big day was over. We purchased ticking stripe that my childhood nanny made into tablecloths, which we will upholster our kitchen chairs and outdoor furniture with this fall. We didn’t want to have things go to waste. We used the resources that we had on hand, and added to them when needed; everything was carefully thought out.
“When Scotty and I pulled up in the golf cart to our reception site it took my breath away! I never knew I had a dream wedding so to speak, but I can honestly say that we had the wedding of our dreams. It was the best day of our lives, and I am still blown away by how magical the entire evening was! I would relive that day 1,000 times if I could!”
