When wedding planner Pilu of Dream Events sent us the pictures by Alejandro Sandoval of this wedding we knew we had to feature it. Not only is this wedding fabulously colourful, but we’ve never featured a wedding in Guatemala before.

Bride and groom on street in Antigua, Guatemala

Sindy and Carlos’s wedding is full of Guatemalan culture; the historical church where the ceremony took place, the incredible textiles (you have to see the bride’s shoes!) and the Zacapa rum that was poured into the guests’ mouths during the evening festivities.

So vibrant and fun — just fabulous!

“Carlos and Sindy’s typical Guatemalan wedding took place in Antigua. It’s a colourful, magical and very peculiar village at the skirts of the grandiose volcano, Volcán de Agua.

Iconic Temple Ceremony

“Sindy, as a token of her love towards Carlos, converted to the Catholic religion so they could marry in the famous La Merced church. Built in the 1750s, this iconic temple of the town of Antigua stood strong even after several earthquakes that destroyed other parts of Antigua in 1773, 1874 and 1976.

“The robust construction is one of the most emblematic buildings in Antigua, Guatemala. Its yellow facade wall and the lordly front wooden door are characteristic enough to attract all tourists and locals.”

Typical Guatemalan Feel

“They chose the wedding venue, Hotel Casa Blanca, for its particularities. A moving rooftop that permitted dancing under the stars, a living tree inside the stage where the group led the party and the vestiges of colonial walls surrounding guests made a more typical Guatemalan look and feel possible.

“They had wanted a Guatemalan wedding theme from the beginning. As the bride’s family were coming from all over the country the couple wanted to highlight the importance of their own culture. Guatemala and its customs came to life through the colours, details, textiles, Zacapa rum and the chosen venues.”
