Zoe and Carl’s wedding, photographed by Segerius Bruce Photography, took place at Lains Barn in Oxfordshire. To create a fun, relaxed atmosphere for their guests, they planned a beautiful garden party wedding. Crates of garden flowers were placed around the venue, their tables were decorated with candles, pots of flowers, birdcages and storm lanterns, and various tables were set up around the barn, including a sweetie table, coffee bar and cheese table.
“Having lived in Hong Kong for the past two years, we wanted to come home to get married and have a big party in the countryside for all our friends and family. We love being outdoors, so we chose a garden party theme to encourage everyone to really relax and have fun. Lains Barn was the perfect setting — we placed flickering tea lights everywhere to create an enchanted look, and hung lanterns from the roof of the barn to add a sense of atmosphere.
“We decorated the whole venue so the garden party theme flowed from room to room. Our friends Tom and Liz, planted garden flowers into crates, which we placed all around the venue, and we filled all the troughs in the barn with flowers. When it came to decorating the tables we didn’t want to go down the traditional route and have vases of blooms. Instead, we placed different sized candles, pots of flowers, storm lanterns and small birdcages randomly around the venue, and then built up the look by adding gypsophila and a mix of other white and green flowers, including hydrangeas, stocks, stephanotis, rosemary, viburnum, eucalyptus, ‘Splash Sensation’ roses, veronica and lisianthus. We used corks to hold the name cards, which were designed to mirror the design of our invites. We also added other tables throughout the barn; a coffee bar, sweetie table, cheese table and cake table, which all displayed similar props to continue the theme. Everything looked perfect!
“My dress was a beautifully simple gown by Caroline Castigliano, and I chose a classic garden-style bouquet of white blooms to match. It included ivory freesias, stephanotis, lily of the valley, lisianthus and sweet Williams. I’d seen a picture of a similar bouquet in a magazine, and when I explained it to my best friend Lucy (who is a florist at Seventh Heaven), she was able to recreate it. Carl wore a buttonhole of freesias and stephanotis, with a bespoke suit that he’d had specially made in Hong Kong.”
