Today we are sharing the beautiful pictures from Amy and Alex’s wedding, photographed by Mirrorbox Photography. Their ceremony was conducted by Alex’s godfather, and took place in a beautiful medieval church a few miles from their reception venue, Oxenfoord Castle. The castle was the perfect setting, needing just a few extra details to bring together their 18th century France themed wedding…
“Our wedding theme was very much inspired by where we met. We both studied history at university and we wanted to bring the grandeur and elegance of 18th century France into every aspect of our day. For us the most important aspect of the wedding was the venue, which we felt would really define our wedding theme. We must have visited or researched practically every venue in Scotland in search of the perfect grand yet intimate historic venue. Oxenfoord Castle in Pathhead Midlothian was ideal. We loved the romantic spiral staircase and sweeping lawns which were perfect for photos, and inside, the brightly coloured rooms with large windows and gilt mirrors reflected the setting evening light.
“There was very little we needed to do to our venue to make it fit with our theme, but little personal touches really brought the theme together and made it more personal to us. Rose-filled vintage teacups and confetti made from French novels were scattered on each table in the library, and old family wedding photos and homemade candles decorated every surface and ledge. Our place settings and table plan were a labour of love, as we used old romantic postcards which we had picked up from vintage fairs and trips away together. Each card was matched to a friend or relative and held special memories of the holidays we had shared and the unusual shops we visited! Our table plan was an old map of Paris showing the important landmarks, which became the name of our tables.”
