And the winner is… Jess Petrie Photography!

Bride and groom touching noses in the snow - Picture by Jess Petrie Photography

Our congratulations go to Jess Petrie Photography after this beautiful picture received the most votes from our readers to win our February 2013 Picture of the Day competition, and became the second picture to go through to our Picture of the Year vote. We asked Jess to tell us a bit about the picture…

“Sophie and Matt got hitched on the shores of Sydney Harbour opposite the Opera House, on Halloween (their 9th anniversary), before celebrating with two friends who were in on the secret, plenty of bubbles and dinner overlooking Bondi beach.

“They didn’t have a professional photographer on the day, so when they came back to the UK they decided to have a post-wedding shoot. Sophie had expressed that she has always loved winter, especially the crunchy frosts and twinkling lights of Christmas, so they thought it would be lovely to have some wintery shots as a contrast to their summery wedding day ones (taken by friends).

“Sophie and Matt decided to brave the bracing weather and re-create their special day in the Peak District. Sophie and Matt live in Sheffield and it’s a part of the world they love spending time in, so it meant a lot to them.

“It was so very cold and windy at the time of this shot, but as a photojournalistic photographer would (no posing or controlling), I let Sophie and Matt have a moment… and whilst they were embracing each other I caught this snap, with the sun positioned perfectly behind them. For me this is what my job is about, capturing that special moment between two people in love; something unique, precious and priceless…”
