Yes that’s it, we now have all our finalists for our 2021 Picture of the Year competition! You voted this beautiful picture by Helen Rose Photography our December Picture of the Month, making it the last picture to go through to next week’s final. Helen took this photograph during ‘golden hour’ at Lillie and Brad’s wedding, which took place at Tissington Hall in the Peak District National Park…
Loving Yet Fun
“Lillie and her family have been close friends of ours for many years, so having the opportunity to photograph her wedding was something I was really looking forward to. Also, as luck would have it, the sun shone on us all the entire day, which you can’t always guarantee or predict.
“They chose to save having most of their ‘couple’ photographs taken until after their wedding breakfast, so they could make the most use of golden hour before the sun went down. Golden hour is a period of time before sunset, or after sunrise, in which daylight is redder and softer than when the sun is higher in the sky. I for one am a big fan of golden hour, yet believe if you are a good photographer you can take amazing photographs any time of the day, in any weather.
“This photograph was one of a series of images I captured of Lillie and Brad on a grassy area, just outside the entrance of the marquee they were holding their wedding breakfast and reception in.
“The sun at this point was shining low and soft through the trees, backlighting them perfectly. I held the end of her veil and gave it a little shake to add some motion to the image whilst Brad whispered sweet nothings into Lillie’s ear, and clearly also a joke or two. Guests then started to arrive ready for the evening reception, so we decided to go explore more of the extensive grounds of Tissington Hall together for more photographs before the sun set.
“I really think this image, independently of their other photos that tell the entire story of their day, captures their loving yet fun personalities beautifully.
“There are always more people involved in creating a photograph so I just wanted to mention Wedding Belles of Four Oaks where Lillie got her dress from, her flawless Makeup by Lauren Victoria, hair by Rosie Moore and flowers by Jackie of Alexander Rose Flowers.”
