Bride and groom by glaciers and mountains - Picture by Nick Rose Photography

Our congratulations go to Nick Rose Photography after this picture received the most votes in our December 2014 Picture of the Day competition to become the last picture to go through to our Picture of the Year 2014 vote next week. It truly is a stunning picture taken at a breathtakingly beautiful location — the glacier lagoon in Jökulsárlón, Iceland…

“Corene and Randy are from Singapore and wanted something really unique for their wedding photographs, so contacted me about coming up with an Iceland itinerary that would give them something really special. I flew over from London to meet them in Iceland and we spent three days driving across the island capturing their wedding photographs at some of the most amazing places. I have photographed weddings in Iceland before so had an idea about some of the places that would work, and on the second day we made the 600km drive to the stunning Ice Lagoon in Jökulsárlón.

“Despite the beauty of the setting Jökulsárlón can be a difficult location to photograph a white wedding in as the dress against white ice can get lost in the background. After walking around the lagoon I found the perfect spot where the contrast of the black sand made the dress stand out, along with the complementary tones of the ice. The beauty of Iceland in the summer is that the sun never really sets and we had around 23 hours of light each day to play with, so we never felt rushed for time. Corene was great at dealing with the cold around the glaciers and we had an incredible few days.”
